Prospect Spotlight: Casmir Chavis

Dylan Petersen

Casmir Chavis (pictured above) is one of the most electric players from the 2024 Minnesota high school recruiting class. His athleticism has allowed him to become a fan favorite in Minnesota high school hoops.

Casmir Chavis looks to continue the legacy of successful guards to come out of the state of Minnesota. Chavis lived up to all of the hype during his junior season at Park Center. The 6’2 guard led Park Center all the way to the state championship game just to fall short and lose in an overtime thriller. His athleticism and quickness is unmatched, as he is known for blowing by defenders and finishing above the rim. In this article I am going to describe why Casmir Chavis is such an electric player.

Currently, Chavis is only ranked as a three star recruit according to 247 Sports.com. After this spring/summer I believe that ranking will only go up. Casmir Chavis is one of the best downhill players in all of the midwest; he is willing to attack any defender that stands in his way. Chavis has a smooth handle which helps him get to the rim easily. He also has very solid defense as well and occasionally will hit the open three. Some people have doubted his playstyle but he has proven that it works on one of the top levels of high school basketball on the 3SSB circuit. Chavis is averaging an impressive 21 points per game on the season for JSizzles. JSizzles is Jalen Suggs AAU team and I believe Chavis has a very similar playstyle compared to Suggs. Chavis has similar finishing tools and toughness that Jalen Suggs had for Minnehaha.

The skill that makes Chavis such an electric prospect is his finishing ability. Chavis will charge any player that is standing in the paint and he will either go around you or he will put it on you. Chavis is virtually unstoppable in transition, with his high flying dunks and acrobatic finishes. His unique layup package allows him to finish on any defender. He also will put you on a poster, Chavis has put plenty of players on poster already in his young career. Chavis is not a player that I would want to jump with.

Recruitment

Casmir Chavis has received 3 division one offers so far and after this AAU season that number should go up a couple. He has offers from Washington, Hampton, and West Virginia. He has also taken one unofficial visit to Oklahoma State. The Minnesota Gophers have also yet to offer Chavis just like McAndrew for some reason. He would be another hometown star for the Gophers. Currently, Chavis’ recruitment seems wide open and it does not look like there are any favorites or front runners.

Casmir Chavis is as electric as they come and he continues to rise as a prospect. He is definitely one of the most popular players in Minnesota due to his flashy playstyle. The rest of the country is sleeping on him though, and hopefully after this AAU season he will be more relevant.
