Daniel Freitag will be a great fit for the Wisconsin Badgers program. Freitag will probably be next in line for the Badgers at point guard once Chucky Hepburn graduates. He chose the Badgers over Minnesota, Baylor, Virginia, and Notre Dame. Freitag will join a long list of talented players to commit to the Wisconsin Badgers over the Minnesota Gophers.
Freitag is currently ranked #90 in the country and #1 in Minnesota according to 247 Sports.com. He is a 6’3 combo guard who excels at facilitating and getting downhill to finish at the rim. Wisconsin offered Freitag in football and basketball which shows how much of a special athlete he truly is. His elite instincts allows him to be a great on-ball defender. He has a consistent three point shot and he can score in a variety of ways. As a junior for Bloomington Jefferson this past season he averaged 29 ppg, 10 rpg, and 4 apg.
He also is leading the Nike EYCL circuit in assists per game at 5.2, showing that he is one of the best floor generals in the country. Daniel Freitag has been a star this spring while playing for the Howard Pulley Panthers and he has led them to a 10-5 record on the Nike EYCL circuit. Jack Robison, another 2024 Badger commit, also plays for team Howard Pulley. Robison probably was a big factor in helping the Badgers land Freitag.
Wisconsin coach Greg Gard has been outstanding at building bonds with Minnesota high school recruits over the years. Freitag talked about how his relationship with the Wisconsin coaches was unmatched compared to the other schools that recruited him. Freitag also said in his commitment interview with 247 Sports.com that “They did a really good job recruiting me over this past two years, and they have not offered any other point guards in my grade or surrounding grades, and that kind of shows how much trust they had in landing me” (247 Sports.com). This quote from Freitag means two things: one is that the Badgers did an amazing job at building trust with Freitag and two is that the Minnesota Gophers decided to pick 2024 point guard Isaac Asuma over Daniel Freitag. Freitag also talked about how he was promised a year to play with veteran guard Chucky Hepburn. Playing under Hepburn’s wing will help Freitag become one of the top point guards in the Big Ten in a few years.
As a senior, Daniel Freitag will be playing for Southern California Academy, which is one of the top basketball prep schools in the country. Daniel Freitag is already ranked as the #1 player in California in the 2024 class according to 247 Sports.com. Playing tougher competition will only help him become more ready for the college level. Playing at Southern California Academy should also help his stock rise.
Freitag’s commitment was a huge commitment for the Badgers, and I project him to be one of the best floor generals in the Big Ten in a few years. Daniel Freitag is another amazing prospect helping put the country on notice with Minnesota high school hoops.
