Isaac Asuma comes from Cherry, a town with a population of around 900 people but this does not stop him from being one of the premiere point guards in all of the Midwest. The 6’3 guard is looking to become a Minnesota legend after he decided to stay home and commit to the Gophers. Asuma chose the Gophers over schools like Iowa, TCU, Xavier, and more. He currently is ranked #139 in the country and #4 in Minnesota according to 247 Sports.com. His ranking should rise when the new 247 Sports rankings come out due to some of his notable performances on the Adidas circuit.

Asuma has led Cherry high school to back to back state tournament appearances but he has fell just short of a championship each year. Cherry should be back there again and this time I expect Isaac and his team to bring home the championship. They will be heavy favorites to win the state tournament in class 1A.

As a Prospect

Asuma averaged 21 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 6 assists during his junior year at Cherry High School. He is always on triple double watch when he hits the court showing how versatile of a player he really is. His high IQ allows him to be a great passer and an efficient scorer. The 6’3 guard has an excellent shooting stroke and he is amazing at creating his own shot. Asuma excels at creating space for himself to open up easy shots on the perimeter.

The skill that impresses me the most is his finishing ability. Asuma is a wide receiver in football and you can see how he translates that to basketball. He is amazing at finishing through contact around the rim and he turns his body in all sorts of directions just like a wide receiver has to do in football. Asuma’s acrobatic finishing ability makes him super hard to contain on the offensive end.

Isaac Asuma is still one of the most underrated recruits in the country even after an impressive summer for D1 Minnesota. He will probably continue to be underrated due to him playing at such a low level of high school basketball. I consider him as one of the favorites for Minnesota Mr. Basketball and I expect him and Cherry to take home the class 1A state championship this year. Ben Johnson and the Gophers have found an in-state gem and he looks like the future at the point for the maroon and gold.
