Team Tyus takes Home the Twin Cities Pro-Am Championship

The Twin Cities Pro-Am brought out the whole state of Minnesota for their championship game on Thursday night. Minnehaha’s gym was filled from top to bottom with fans. Everyone was ready to see some Minnesota hoops legends put on a show and that’s exactly what happened. Tre and Tyus Jones combined for almost 80 points to help Team Tyus secure the championship over Minnesota Detailing. In this article I will go over how the championship all went down.

Game Recap

First Half: Ohio State transfer Jamison Battle was cooking to start off this game. He scored 13 out of the first 20 points for Minnesota Detailing, proving why he is an all-Big Ten caliber player. Calvin Wishart also had a nice start for Minnesota Detailing after knocking down a pair of threes to get the game going. Minnesota Detailing was off to a fast start and it looked like we might have a potential upset on our hands.

Then as always, hometown hero Tyus Jones stole the show. Tyus had the crowd going wild after he broke down his defender and nailed a three pointer to make it a 17-20 game. He continued to pour it on as the half went along, finishing at the hoop and knocking down threes to give Team Tyus the lead once again.

Tre Jones also started to heat up at the end of the second quarter. He was burying deep threes, throwing down transition dunks, and he was dropping dimes to his brother. Mohamed Kone, a former Apple Valley standout also had a nice surge for Team Tyus and they went into the half with a 56-51 lead.

Second Half: Team Tyus continued to apply the pressure and they kept momentum as the third quarter went along. Anthony Tucker and Tre Jones were hitting tough shots back and fourth, and Minnesota Detailing had no answers to stop them. Luckily, Badou Ba was dominating in the paint for Minnesota Detailing and he kept it close. Until Tyus Jones started hitting threes again and now he was making it look too easy. Team Tyus was pulling away and they were up 94-75 at the end of the third quarter.

Minnesota Detailing was not going to go down without a fight. The trio of Calvin Wishart, Anders Nelson, and Jamison Battle all helped Minnesota Detailing back into the game and they got within 4 points of Team Tyus. The score was 104-100 and the ending score to win was 114. Minnesota Detailing kept it intersting but it wasn’t enough to keep up with Tre and Tyus Jones.

Tre Jones could have ended the game on free throws but he wanted to win the game in fashion for the fans. The score was 113-108, Tyus Jones took the ball down the court and ended the game after he drove to the hoop for a game-winning floater. With that shot Team Tyus took home the Twin Cities Pro-Am championship.

Tre and Tyus Jones showed how big the skill gap really is between an NBA player and a non-NBA player. One fan on Instagram even commented, “Nba players are so much better than us it’s pretty wild” (twincitiesproam/Instagram). Tyus ended 43 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists and Tre Jones had 34 points, 12, and 9 rebounds!

This year’s Twin Cities Pro-Am league gained a lot of hype and it became one of the top Pro-Am leagues in the country with special guests like Tyus Jones, Jalen Suggs, and more. I had a fun time following it and I am sure Minnesota basketball fans enjoyed the season too. I am excited to see how fast it grows as the years go on.
